PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Livio Innocenti and his father Sabatino bought the property that now bears the family name in 1961. Located in the hills surrounding Montalcino, in the Citille di Sotto area, Azienda Agricola Innocenti's 7 hectares of vineyards are on south-facing slopes that get excellent sun exposure and maritime winds. These conditions bring forth fruit that balances ripeness with acidity and produces rich, complex, and powerful wines.

2016 was an excellent vintage in Montalcino, receiving a 96-point rating from Vinous.com:
"It’s Montalcino’s time to shine! If I had to think of one way to universally describe the majority of wines from the 2016 vintage, I would offer that they are like a well-muscled black stallion in its prime. They are dark yet radiant, expressive, nearly explosive at times, yet pure, poised, and structured. These are wines that capture your imagination, and no matter how youthfully tense they are today, you simply can’t help but revisit a glass over and over again; because in many cases, the aromatics alone are intoxicating. I frankly cannot remember the last time I tasted young wines from Montalcino that possessed such symmetry from start to finish." (Eric Guido)

The 2016 Azienda Agricola Innocenti Brunello di Montalcino was aged for 24 months in 30hl Slavonian oak barrels, followed by an additional 12 months in the bottle before release. Check out the press!

96 points, James Suckling:
"This really shows beautiful, intense purity of fruit with ripe cherry and mineral character, as well as fresh flowers and some cedar. Turns slightly meaty. Full-bodied with chewy tannins and a juicy, flavorful finish. Mouth-coating tannins. Needs five or six years to come together. Try after 2025." (11/1/20)

91 points, Vinous:
"There’s an old-world rusticity to the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino that sets it apart, urging you to dig deeper into its dark and rich bouquet. Black cherries, mentholated herbs, and white smoke come forward over time. Its textures are velvety in feel, giving way to an elegant expression of ripe black fruits, spiced orange, and hints of lavender. Cooling acids, mint, and a hint of air-dried and smoked meats remain, along with fine tannins which tug at the senses." (11/20)
