Morellino di Scansano is in Maremma, on the southern tip of Tuscany by the Tyrrhenian Sea. It benefits from volcanic soil and hot, dry daytime weather balanced out by sea breezes that elicit significant swings in day-to-night temperatures. This variation enables grapes to develop an ideal balance between ripe fruit characters and acidity. And that volcanic soil? It makes its mark on the wines, providing the ideal complementary flavors to the native Sangiovese grape.

Fattoria Le Pupille is a family-owned estate currently managed by Elisabetta Geppetti and her daughter, Clara Gentili. The first woman in her family to run this iconic winery, Elisabetta has carried on the traditions of her forebears while at the same time breaking new ground; she was instrumental in the establishment of Morellino di Scansano as a DOCG, putting this production zone on the world wine map alongside its more well-known Tuscan neighbors.

A blend of 90% Sangiovese and 5% each Ciliegiolo and Alicante fermented and aged in stainless steel in order to preserve the wine's ebullient fruit characters, the 2024 Fattoria le Pupille Morellino di Scansano has aromas of red berries layered with peonies and violets. The palate is light- to medium-bodied, with flavors of juicy cherries, raspberries, and cranberries with undertones of Mediterranean herbs and orange peel. Bright acidity and red berries bring the wine to a long finish.
