The DOC of Beira Interior in the northeastern part of Portugal is an off-the-beaten-path wine destination that deserves the popularity and attention of more mainstream appellations. Because of the long marriage of varietals and soil here, the grapes know how to reap the most out of their terroir, resulting in wines that are distinct, aromatic, and expressive.
The 2025 Beyra Branco is made from Portuguese varietals Gouveio, Fonte Cal, and Síria grown in soils of granite, schist, and quartz at 2300 feet ASL. Vinified and aged in stainless steel to preserve its fresh fruit characters, it is mouthwateringly delicious, with aromas and flavors of lemon and lime zest and pink grapefruit laced with notes of white flowers, Mediterranean herbs, and wet stone. Moderate acidity brings the wine to a long finish and makes it very quaffable.
