PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Portugal has emerged from the shadows of Spain, France, and Italy and has staked its claim as a major player in the fine wine industry. We are particularly lucky here in the Boston area as we have several importers and brokers who have been ahead of the curve, tirelessly finding "new-to-us" and exciting Portuguese wines for consumers long before the rest of the world caught on.

One of them is Jack Couto, who has been working in the Boston market for years. Fondly known as "Mr. Portugal", Jack has a portfolio that showcases the expansive and diverse range of Portuguese wines. Today's offer is an outstanding example of his well-priced wines of exceptional quality.

The Beyra Branco is made from Portuguese varietals Síria and Fonte Cal from the DOC of Beira Interior in the northeastern part of Portugal. It's an off-the-beaten-path wine that deserves the popularity and attention of more mainstream selections. Because of the long marriage of varietals and soil here, the grapes know how to reap the most out of their terroir, resulting in wines that are distinct, aromatic, and expressive.

The 2020 Beyra Branco is bright and refreshing, with floral-tinged citrus aromas and flavors of grapefruit, lemon peel, and red berries entwined with hints of baking spice and stony minerality. Moderate acidity brings the wine to a long finish and makes it very quaffable.
