Domaine Vigneau-Chevreau is one of the most prolific producers in the Loire Valley, thanks to fifth-generation winemaker Stéphane Vigneau-Chevreau's dedication to organic/biodynamic farming as well as a non-interventionist approach to winemaking that lets the terroir do the talking. Today's wine is crafted from 100% Chenin Blanc sourced from vines planted on south-facing hills in Vouvray with soils composed of clay, limestone, and flint ("silex"). The wine is fermented in seasoned barrels for two months after harvest, followed by a few months of lees-aging in stainless-steel tanks, thus achieving a pitch-perfect balance between acidity and generous fruit characters.
95 points & "Jane Anson's Top Fine Wines of 2019", Decanter:
"A brilliant value Chenin that delivers the moreish combination of steely acidity with sweet peaches and pear creaminess. There is a touch of residual sugar in this - no more than 9g/l - but it is only discernible through the weight of fruit, never through sweetness. The vines are all aged between 30 and 40 years old, from a certified organic vineyard (farmed biodynamically). Drunk over a family lunch with heaped plates of langoustines and prawns, topped off with baguette and salty butter. Heaven...Drinking Window 2019 - 2023."- Jane Anson
