Introduction:
The 2023 Mersel Phoenix “Merwah” Skin‑Contact is a vibrant orange wine from Lebanon that showcases the indigenous Merwah grape. Rich in texture and minerality, it’s naturally made and expressive—perfect for both adventurous drinkers and food pairings.
Terrior:
Sourced from ~150-year-old Merwah vines grown around 1,600 m elevation in the Qannoubine Valley (Dimane, North Lebanon). The vineyards lie in sandy volcanic soils and experience significant diurnal shifts, enhancing natural acidity and aromatic purity.
Appearance:
Pale amber with glowing orange highlights; slightly translucent and gently viscous in the glass.
Nose:
Bright and complex—aromas of orange peel, dried apricot, quince, yellow grapefruit, and wild herbs, complemented by subtle nutty and oxidative notes.
Palate:
Medium-bodied, with crunchy texture and lively acidity. The wine features stone fruit and citrus flavors, light honeyed notes, herbal lift, and a distinct volcanic salinity. The skin contact adds structure and tension without heaviness.
Finish:
Dry, crisp, and persistent—citrus fruit fades into chalky mineral and herbal echoes, with an energetic saline twist.
Overall Impression:
A compelling, natural orange wine that is both textured and refreshing. Ideal with grilled seafood, lentil soup, Middle Eastern mezze, or vegetable-forward dishes. Serve slightly chilled (14–18 °C). Best enjoyed now through 2026.
