Singing Tree wines are made by Nick Goldschmidt, a New Zealand native who, after obtaining education and experience in enology in his native country, moved to California. He headed the winemaking program at Simi Winery and simultaneously consulted with the winemaking teams at Cloudy Bay, Clos du Bois, Atlas Peak, William Hill, Buena Vista, and Gary Farrell. He established the winery bearing his name in 1998, where he dedicates the majority of his efforts to crafting world-class, single-vineyard wines. Singing Tree Winery, named after the songbirds who lived in the apple trees formerly planted there, is his latest project. Devoted to matching grape and rootstock to the right vineyard sight, Singing Tree wines embody Goldschmist's endeavor to craft flavorful wines with ripe fruit characters.
Aged for 8 months in a combination of new (20%) and seasoned French oak barrels, the 2024 Singing Tree Pinot Noir opens with aromas of red berries laced with rose petals and sweet baking spices. The palate is elegant and structured, with vibrant cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate flavors, hints of brambly earth, and subtle toasty notes supported by bright acidity and silky tannins. The finish is long and polished, with lingering red fruits, soft oak, and a touch of spice.
