Astoria was founded by an old winemaking family in 1987 and is currently under the care of brothers Paolo and Giorgio Polegato. They have 40 acres in the DOCG of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene. While they specialize in the production of Prosecco, some of their holdings are dedicated to the cultivation of international varietals. Cool climate grapes like Pinot Noir have thrived there, as evidenced by this terrific wine.

The 2023 Astoria Caranto Pinot Noir has aromas of ripe, floral-tinged red fruits followed by a medium-bodied, silky palate of black cherries, raspberries, and strawberries entwined with subtle notes of savory herbs, brambly earth, and baking spices. Pliant tannins and moderate acidity lend structure and balance without detracting from the wine's smooth texture. Echos of cherries and raspberries linger on the long finish.
