The DOC of Beira Interior in the northeastern part of Portugal is an off-the-beaten-path wine destination that deserves the popularity and attention of more mainstream appellations. Because of the long marriage of varietals and soil here, the grapes know how to reap the most out of their terroir, resulting in wines that are distinct, aromatic, and expressive.
The 2025 Beyra Tinto is made from Portuguese varietals Mourisco, Rufete, and Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) grown in soils of granite, schist, and clay at 2100 feet ASL. Vinified in cement and stainless steel vats and aged in stainless steel to preserve its fresh fruit characters, it has aromas and flavors of blackberries and black raspberries layered with baking spices. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy, with soft tannins and lively acidity.
