Introduction:
Patricia Ortiz, proprietor of Tapiz Winery, has played a substantial role in making Argentina a major player on the world wine stage. She has championed sustainable farming practices and a non-interventionist approach to winemaking that showcase the various terroirs in Mendoza.

Tapiz is one of the most renowned and awarded wineries in Argentina. All of the Tapiz fruit comes from the winery's famed San Pablo vineyard in the Tupungato sub-appellation of Mendoza's Uco Valley. San Pablo is one of the highest altitude vineyards in Mendoza (4,600 feet above sea level). This extreme altitude provides for warm days which impart concentration to the grapes and cold nights which bring forth natural acidity. The state-of-the-art winery is located in the vineyard. Winemaker Fabian Valenzuela was joined by Jean Claude Berrouet in 2012, who previously presided over 50 vintages at Bordeaux's renowned Petrus Estate. Together, they work to create a beautiful tapestry of lush fruit, terroir, and oak in each and every one of their distinctive cuvées.*

Terroir:
San Pablo Vineyard occupies the coolest corner of the Uco Valley, where proximity to the Portillo Ridge funnels cold Andean air down through the vineyard each evening, preserving natural acidity and floral aromatics even as the fruit achieves full ripeness in the intense high-altitude sunshine. The vineyards sits at 1,350 meters (4,430 feet) ASL on sandy loam and alluvial soils with limestone substratum — a profile that contributes the wine's characteristic minerality and aromatic precision. The extreme diurnal temperature variation of 15–20°C between day and night is the defining climatic force behind Tapiz Alta's freshness and structure.

Tasting notes:
The 2022 Tapiz Alta Collection Malbec has aromas of blackberries, plum, black cherries, and violets layered with  herbs, fresh floral notes, vanilla, and toasted almond, The palate is
medium- to full-bodied with firm yet polished tannins and a lively, mineral-edged acidity that drives freshness through the concentrated fruit core. Flavors of black and red berries, dark plums, and  herbs are woven through integrated oak notes of vanilla, cedar, and cocoa. The finish is long and mineral-driven, with lively acidity and a close of dark fruits, cracked pepper, and spice.

Press:
93 points, Vinous:
"The 2022 Malbec Alta Collection comes from San Pablo in the Uco Valley. Aged for ten months in oak barrels (85% French and 15% American), it offers violet, cherry and plum notes with herbal nuances over an oak backdrop. The palate is smooth, intense and fairly lean, featuring fine, reactive tannins and a juicy, fruit-driven flavor that embodies a primary and pure character. This is a pristine high-elevation Malbec from 2022."

91 points, James Suckling:
"Pretty nose with some black cherries, blueberries, lavender and black pepper. Round and medium-bodied on the palate with plenty of fleshy fruit and soft-grained tannins."

90 points, Decanter:
"Rich mocha and tapenade aromas lead to a creamy palate with broad appeal. Abundant ripe dark fruits, dried herbs, and spices create an inviting complexity, warming alcohol and a fresh finish."
