Sonoma County's Russian River Valley makes distinct, terroir-driven chardonnays. Its heavy fog and proximity to the influences of the Pacific Ocean provide the ideal growing conditions for this cool-climate varietal. It is one of the finest appellations in the country for this noble grape, and no one makes better RRV chardonnay than Ramey Wine Cellars. If rich yet elegant chardonnay, with incredible, layered flavors, is your jam, you must experience his magnificent juice. Now is your chance!
David and Carla Ramey founded the winery in 1996 and developed a distinctive California winemaking style that combined old-world techniques with the premier fruit of Sonoma and Napa. The Ramey family has long excelled at collaborating with other multigenerational winegrowers to make single-vineyard wines as well as blends that showcase the defining characteristics of their sites. The second generation, Claire and Alan Ramey, began working at the winery in 2013 and have been cross-trained in all aspects of winery operations. In 2021, Claire and Alan became co-presidents of Ramey Wine Cellars. Their vision is unwavering: to make classic wines from Sonoma and Napa that are among the world’s best.*
The 2021 Ramey Wine Cellars Chardonnay 'Woolsey Road' is sourced from the practicing organic Woolsey Road Vineyard owned by the Marinelli family, who planted the vineyard in 2007 according to David Ramey's specifications. The vineyard's soil is composed of clay-loam over clay, and its northeast-facing slope gives the vines the ideal amount of sun exposure. The wine is aged for 20 months in French oak (20% new) and is fined for clarity but unfiltered.

96 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
"Bright straw-colored, the 2021 Chardonnay Woolsey Road Vineyard is forward on the nose with notes of melon rind, fresh pear, flint, and delicate baking spice, and it has a lot of vibrant nature. Medium to full-bodied, it offers fantastic tension and a linear feel with great length, and it’s going to age very well. Drink 2025-2040." (6/27/24)

95 points, Wine Advocate:
"The 2021 Chardonnay Woolsey Road Vineyard is perfumed and exotic. It has layered aromas of candied apricot, alpine herbs, honey, almonds, and crème fraîche. The medium-bodied palate is expansive and mouth-coating, with generous flavors. Firm, shimmery acidity balances its hedonistic edge, and it should be long-lived in the cellar. 787 cases were made. 94 points, Wine Spectator:
"Fragrant, focused and precise, offering flavors of lemongrass and lemon blossoms, with Meyer lemon and green papaya accents, plus a touch of tangerine. Shows green tea, lemon balm, and white pepper notes on a mouthwatering frame, with a hint of salinity that lingers." (7/31/24)
