The MacDonnell family purchased their first vineyards in the Napa Valley in 1978. Between 1983 and 1986, they added 300+ additional acres on the Rutherford Bench, situated among many of the region's most acclaimed wineries - BV, Caymus, Frog's Leap, & Cakebread, to name a few.
Initially growing grapes for their esteemed neighbors, the family established a reputation for producing some of the finest fruit in Napa Valley. With the transition of the day-to-day business to the next generation, Round Pond Estates began developing relationships with growers throughout the North Coast and producing its own wines. Today, Round Hill Estates has garnered a stellar reputation as a producer of expressive, ultra-premium Napa and Sonoma wines.
This fruit for the 2022 Chardonnay is sourced from the heart of the Russian River Valley, where nightly ocean fog patterns create a cooling effect that slows down the ripening process, preserving high acidity and increasing flavor development in the grapes. A portion of this wine was put through malolactic fermentation to soften its high acidity and broaden the palate.*
Aged for 5 months in French oak (12% new), the 2022 Round Pond Estate Kith & Kin Chardonnay has aromas of green apples, tropical fruits, and a slight hint of oak that leap from the glass. Flavors of kumquats and dried apricots mingle with layers of baked apple pie and lemon peel. The acid perfectly balances the creamy mouthfeel and leads to a lingering finish.*
