Luigi Voghera established the estate bearing his name in 1974 with his wife, Pinuccia. Situated in proximity to the three main villages in the region, Treiso, Neive, & Barbaresco, Luigi Voghera is a small, sustainably farmed property dedicated to the craftsmanship of wines made exclusively from native varietals that reflect their origins.
Today, his son, Livio has taken the reins and runs the estate with the same passion and dedication as his father. With only 22 hectares of vineyards, he has time to lavish lots of attention on his vines throughout the year, and it shows in his finished wines.
The 2020 Luigi Voghera Cotta Barbaresco is sourced from two parcels of land (totaling three hectares) in the Cottà Vineyard, which is the oldest vineyard owned by the Voghera family and has vines between 30 and 60 years old. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in wooden casks for two years before bottling, it is a nebbiolo lover's dream, with classic aromas of red cherries, rose petals, and thyme. The medium-bodied palate has dominant flavors of cherries, cranberries, and pomegranates balanced by earthy undertones of forest floor, truffle, and dried herbs. The oak aging imparts a gentle touch of spice—notes of cinnamon and clove—that integrates seamlessly with the fruit. Its finely-grained tannins and bright acidity add structure and balance.
