PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Situated just inside Spain near the northeastern tip of Portugal, Valtea sits on the edge of the river Miño. The estate’s vineyards cover 37 acres, but another 17 acres are leased. Valtea’s vines are more than 30 years old; they bring forth rich, concentrated grapes that deftly balance freshness and richness. Almost 100% of their vineyards are planted to Albariño, and the vines benefit from the natural terracing that characterizes this part of the river valley. While winemaker Carla Gonzalez Chao emphasizes that the key to great wine is great grapes, there is no doubt that her special talents are responsible for capturing the fine balance of fruit and minerality. Today's wine is medium-bodied yet lively and bright, with aromas and flavors of lemon peel, peaches, pineapples, and apples. The palate is fleshy and round, with vibrant acidity and hints of salinity that bring the wine to a long finish.
