PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
Michel Chapoutier was the heir apparent of a family winemaking operation dating back to the early 1800s and encompassing vineyards throughout the Rhône Valley. After making these good vineyards great by lowering yields and employing organic and biodynamic viticultural practices, he set his sights on the Roussillon and purchased vineyard land around the village of Latour, by the Agly river in the foothills of the Pyrénées. There, he cemented his reputation as one of southern France's superstar winemakers. His flagship Roussillon red is super tasty!
The 2021 Domaine Bila-Haut Côtes du Roussillon-Villages is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan sourced from the steep slopes of the Agly Valley. Aged entirely in concrete vats and stainless steel instead of oak in order to showcase the wine's gorgeous fruit- and terroir-driven characters, it is medium-to-full-bodied, loaded with dark, brambly fruits, and superbly well-balanced.
92 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
"Always a great value, the 2019 Côtes Du Roussillon Villages Les Vignes De Bila Haut is close to equal parts Grenache and Syrah that was destemmed and brought up in concrete and stainless steel. Its vivid purple hue is followed by lots of red and blue fruits, floral and peppery nuances, a medium-bodied mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a great finish. It delivers way more purity and elegance than you'd expect at the price and is just a beautiful wine to enjoy over the coming 3-4 years." (11/19/20)
