Last week, we had our much-anticipated, most memorable event of the Summer, our annual white Burgundy pre-arrival tasting. The expansive lineup was a virtual murderer's row of white Burgundies, and each wine showed extremely well.

Among this embarrassment of riches, there was one wine that stood out for its superb quality paired with incredible value. Everyone at the tasting, including the staff, was abuzz about this wine - so much so that John, our intrepid buyer, was compelled to look for more. As luck would have it, he was able to secure a few cases of this tantalizing juice. If killer white Burgundy at a terrific price is your jam, this one's for YOU!

Olivier Leflaive established his winery in Puligny-Montrachet in 1984. Its youth belies its position as one of the region's finest producers. Olivier and his family are fervent adherents to the philosophy that the terroir is the driving force behind the quality and character of their wines. They take a plot-based approach to wine craftsmanship, believing that each micro-terroir makes a distinct contribution to the finished wine.

Why is today's offer such a spectacular value? Because the grapes were sourced entirely from 8 of the family's old-vine plots in the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, yet the wine is labeled as a Bourgogne Blanc to make white Burgundies more accessible to a broader swath of wine drinkers. How great is that?

The 2022 Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc "Oncle Vincent" is a tribute to Vincent Leflaive, Olivier Leflaive's uncle, who championed the establishment of the winery. Aged for 15 months in French oak (15% new), the wine comes from 35-year-old vines grown in calcareous and silty clay soils and displays lees-driven richness juxtaposed with bright, balancing acidity. It has aromas of peaches and pears entwined with notes of brioche, white flowers, citrus fruits, and almonds. The palate has dominant flavors of green apples, lemon zest, and pears laced with notes of vanilla, toast, and a subtle mineral edge. The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering notes of mineral-laced orchard fruits.

This captivating wine is drinking beautifully now but has the legs to develop further richness and depth over the next 10 to 15 years.
