PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
Winemaking has been in the Rocca genes for generations, but the family's path to greatness began in the mid-1940s when Albino Rocca’s father Giacomo started selling grapes from family vineyards and later made his own wine that was sold in demijohns. After learning his craft from his father and inheriting vineyards in the 1960s, Albino established the winery bearing his name. His hard work and mentorship of his son Angelo laid the foundation that created an internationally renowned winemaking dynasty. The family's acquisition of more vineyards, the introduction of Dolcetto and Barbera varietals, and their continuous efforts to evolve the quality of their Barbarescos have given them iconic status in the wine world.

The 2019 Albino Rocca Barbaresco is crafted from 100% nebbiolo grown in southwest- and southeast-facing hills with marly and calcareous soils in Barbaresco, Neive, and San Rocco Seno d'Elvio. The wine was aged for 20 months in German and Austrian oak barrels. Annual production is approximately 9000 bottles.

93 points, Wine Spectator:
"Fleshy and laced with cherry, plum, eucalyptus, and earth flavors, this red is balanced, solidly built, and long. Lively, with an aftertaste infused with cherry, currant, mineral, and leafy accents. Best from 2025 through 2042. 580 cases made, 300 cases imported."

92 points, Vinous:
"The 2016 Barbaresco is a gorgeous entry-level wine in this range. Dark and fleshy, the 2016 offers terrific depth as well as plenty of character, which is great to see in its peer group. Black cherry, plum, mocha, leather, spice, and licorice all meld together. The straight Barbaresco is a blend from Meruzzano and young vine fruit from Ronchi."
