PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Red wines from Ribera del Duero are among the most sought-after Spanish wines in the world, taking the native Tempranillo to soaring heights. This noble grape, which makes soft and subtle wine in Rioja, is transformed into bold, luscious, concentrated juice in Ribera del Duero. The region is the ideal wine destination for those who love modern-style, new-world reds but are eager to explore European regions.
Bodegas Ismael is a family-owned winery in Sotillo de la Ribera, located in the province of Burgos in the northeast corner of Ribera del Duero. The Arroyo family has deep roots in the region dating back over 400 years. Ismael Arroyo is highly regarded as a pioneer winemaker in the region and was instrumental in the establishment of Ribera del Duero as a DO back in 1982.
The winery has 25 hectares of 60-90-year-old, bush-trained tempranillo vineyards spread in 12 different plots all around the property. The grapes for today’s wine were all hand-harvested and fermented naturally in stainless steel, then aged for six months in French and American oak.
PRODUCT REVIEWS:
91 points, Decanter Magazine:
"The wine offers plenty of bang for your buck, kicking off with black fruit aromatics edged with savory bacon and green pepper, plus a touch of florality. The palate is big and rich but restrained, with nice balancing freshness and a touch of creaminess from well-judged oak."
