PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Margaux is one of the most significant appellations in Bordeaux. Located in the Haut-Médoc on Bordeaux's Left Bank, Margaux is home to 21 classified growth Bordeaux, more than any other appellation in the region. Margaux wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, and the gravelly soils are tailor-made for this great, noble grape. These wines are majestic, well-structured yet supple, with heady aromatics.

As you can imagine, many Margaux are very expensive, so how do we mere mortals get to savor the appellation's pleasures? One way is to seek out small, off-the-beaten-path estates that lie in the shadows of their more famous neighbors. They make terrific wines without commanding astronomical prices.

Enter Château Le Coteau, one of the last family properties of this famous appellation. This is a little-known estate owned by Eric Léglise, located in Arsac on the western side of the Haut-Médoc. Eric Léglise cultivates his ancestors' hallowed land with passion and humility. Château Le Coteau is situated near some of the most well-known of Margaux's Grands Crus Classés estates and shares the same viticulturally rich terroir.

Today's wine is medium-to-full-bodied, with aromas and flavors of cassis and blackberry and accents of toast, pencil shavings, tobacco, and herbs that unfold on the palate layer by layer. Tannins and acidity are firm but the wine's silky texture on the mid-palate brings it all into beautiful balance, making this a wine that you can enjoy now (with a brief decanting) or cellar for 5+ years.
