PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
Christophe Pichon has been working his family estate for over 25 years. Since 2014 his sons Corentin and Alexis have joined their father in both the vineyards and the cellar. He makes wine from a total of 23 hectares; the vineyards are spread over the appellations of Condrieu, Côte Rôtie, Cornas, and Saint-Joseph.
Today’s wine is a blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Viognier sourced from vines between 10 and 55 years old. Aged for 13 months in 75% new and 25% year old French barrels, it is ripe, full-bodied, and just loaded with rich, brooding black fruit characters, with spicy, floral notes and pliant tannins. It has the legs for cellar aging but is drinking beautifully with a brief decant. Decanter Magazine gave it 92 points: “The 2018 Côte Rôtie Promesse showed beautifully, with a full-bodied, plush, opulent style as well as loads of gorgeous Côte Rôtie sweet fruit, flowers, and spice. Soft, fleshy, and already approachable, it's going to be ready to go right out of the gate.”
