Introduction: Domaine Eden is the second estate of the legendary Mount Eden Vineyards, a mountaintop property in the Saratoga foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains purchased in 2007 and farmed with the same commitment to sustainability as the historic home estate. Under the steady hand of winemaker Jeffrey Patterson, the Domaine Eden Cabernet Sauvignon is a Bordeaux-style blend that captures the cool-climate precision and terroir character the Santa Cruz Mountains are celebrated for. The 2019 vintage is among the most compelling expressions the label has produced — opulent and structured in equal measure.
Terroir: Domaine Eden sits at approximately 1,650 feet elevation in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, with Los Gatos clay loam soils on north and east-facing slopes. The wine is sourced from five distinct vineyard sites surrounding Saratoga all farmed by the Mount Eden team. The cool, Pacific-influenced maritime climate and long growing season well above the fog line produce Cabernets of notable freshness and genuine mountain character.
Tasting notes:
Aged for 22 months in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels, the 2019 Domaine Eden Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. It has aromas of loamy earth, black currants, blackberries, and cedar layered with tobacco, incense, and dried herbs, with a subtle floral lift. The full-bodied palate displays flavors of blueberries, cassis, and black cherries framed by notes of woodspice, dried dill, and cocoa, with a bright saline minerality threading through the mid-palate. The tannins are fine-grained, ripe, and well-integrated, supported by the characteristic Santa Cruz Mountains acidity that gives the wine its focus and cut. Silky and plush without sacrificing structure, this is a Cabernet of genuine depth and balance.

94 points, Vinous:
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is such a sexy wine. Plush, deep and seductive, the 2019 is an opulent beauty the likes of which I don't think I have ever tasted here. A rush of black plum, tobacco, incense, dried herbs and licorice makes a strong first impression. Time in the glass brings out the wine's compelling aromatic nuances. Silky and plush, with tremendous depth, the 2019 is a huge overachiever. I loved it."
91 points, Wine Enthusiast:
"Fresh lines of blackberry in this wine are layered in aromas of pencil shavings and toasted herb, proving vibrant yet serious. A bite of woodspice gives an edge to the dried berry and savory meat flavors. Drink now–2039."
