A legend among winemakers, Luis Pato has championed wines from his native Bairrada in the north featuring native varietals, bringing them out of the shadows and onto the world wine stage. Taking a non-interventionist approach to his craft, he makes wines that showcase the seamless interplay of Bairrada terroir and the grapes that have been growing there for centuries.

Baga is the predominant varietal in Bairrada. Its small berries and thick skins bring forth intense, tannic wines reminiscent of Nebbiolo. In today's offer, it is blended with the ultra-ripe Touriga Nacional to create a spectacular wine of impeccable balance.

Sourced from Beira Atlantico on Bairrada's coast (where the Atlantic influences make magic with Baga) and vinified in stainless steel, the 2025 Luis Pato Vinho Tinto is a stunning wine with aromas of raspberries and blackberries laced with subtle hints of violets. The medium-bodied palate beautifully juxtaposes Baga's firm structure with Touriga Nacional's lush, ripe fruits. Flavors of red cherries and raspberries lead, followed by blackberries and cassis on the mid-palate. Accents of chocolate, woodsmoke, and brambly earth add depth and complexity; firm yet pliant tannins and balancing acidity carry the wine to a long finish.
