PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
The Zuccardi family is one of the preeminent winemaking dynasties in Argentina. Starting with the establishment of their winery in Maipú, Mendoza, Bodega Santa Julia, the family has been a pioneer in the craftsmanship of sustainable wines that are pure expressions of Mendoza terroir. Over the years, they expanded with the purchase of vineyards in Mendoza’s prized Uco Valley and the opening of their namesake winery there. Third-generation winemaker Sebastián Zuccardi is currently at the helm and has brought the family accolades too numerous to count here, including World’s Best Winery.*
The Zuccardis’ ‘Q’ line of wines was first made in 1999 and was the first to bear the family name. These wines are made from grapes sourced from select plots throughout Mendoza that reflect the region’s diversity; the letter Q (for quality) was traditionally used to indicate which plots would be selected for the final blend.
The 2021 Zuccardi ‘Q’ Malbec is a mono-varietal made from grapes grown in two Uco Valley vineyards, located in Paraje Altamira in San Carlos and Los Chacayes in Tunuyán. Both sites possess the gifts of the valley: high elevation, abundant sun exposure, alluvial soils, and wide diurnal temperature variations which bring forth wines of incredible depth and intensity. Sebastián eschews heavy use of new oak in favor of concrete tanks and seasoned oak barrels so the characteristics of the varietal and the terroir can really shine.
