With a degree in Enology from Bordeaux University and experience working as a wine consultant for prestigious vineyards in both Bordeaux and abroad, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest joined up with Philippe Nunes, technical director of his La Fleur de Boüard vineyards in Lalande de Pomerol, in 2012 to launch a new project: Château Laurence.*
The Château Laurence vineyard is a 6.6-hectare plot on the banks of the La Laurence River, from which it takes its name. The terroir here, comprised of clay and chalky soils, offers ideal conditions to extract the maximum expression of the merlot varietal. The château produces a splendid single-variety merlot wine, Petite Laurence, as well as the Petite Laurence Blanc, a single-variety sauvignon blanc under the label of the Bordeaux-Supérieur appellation.*
Crafted from 100% merlot aged for 14 months in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels, today's wine is full-bodied, plush, and silky-smooth, with aromas of black fruits tinged with violets and a palate redolent with flavors of blackberries and black cherries laced with hints of cedar, tobacco, savory herbs, and a touch of baking spice. Everything here - fruit and secondary flavors, tannins, and acidity - is beautifully integrated, suggesting a wine that is considerably more expensive than $12.60 per bottle!
