PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Falesco Vitiano is one of many terrific wines made by the world-famous Cotarella family. Their dynasty started in the 1960s when longtime grape growers Antonio and Domenico created a winery in Umbria so that they could make their own wine. The second generation, led by brothers Riccardo and Renzo expanded the family's holdings with the establishment of Falesco, which borders Lazio and Umbria and has vineyards in both regions. Riccardo also became a consulting winemaker for many of the world's most famous estates, thus cementing the family's iconic reputation. Today, the Cotarella family has almost 300 hectares of vineyards in Umbria and Lazio that produce world-class wines loved by wine drinkers throughout the world.
The 2019 Falesco Vitiano is made with equal parts sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot from Montecchio outside of Orvieto. Stainless steel fermented and aged for three months in neutral oak barrels, it is medium-to-full-bodied, with aromas of black cherries and black currants that follow on the silky palate. The ripe fruit characters are laced with notes of tobacco, leather, and hints of herbs. The finish is long, with balancing acidity. Check out the press!
