PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
There is no winemaker better suited to revealing the wonders of Bardolino than Mathilde Poggi. Native to the region, she grew up around vineyards and has always had a deep love and reverence for the land. There was no question that she would one day farm her own vineyards and make her own wines, and her destiny was realized with the establishment of Le Fraghe in 1984. Today, she, along with her three daughters Marta, Irene, and Olga, and consulting winemaker Federico Giotto tend to the winery's four vineyards and are intimately involved in the entire winemaking process from grape cultivation to vinification. The vineyards are organically farmed in order to preserve the pure, terroir-driven, and varietal expression in the finished wines.
Today's offer is made from 80% Corvina and 20% Rondinella, both indigenous varietals that are fermented separately. After being aged in stainless steel tanks the wine is bottled in the spring. Purple-tinged ruby red in color, it offers heady aromas of red cherries, blueberries, and baking spice. The same fruit characters appear on the light-to-medium-bodied palate and are layered with notes of savory herbs, brambly earth, black pepper, and bright acidity.
