PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
The Fontodi Estate is one of the crown jewels of Tuscany. Year after year, their wines receive numerous accolades from the wine press and are sought after by the most ardent collectors of Italian wines. The reason is simple: the estate's non-interventionist approach to winemaking showcases the unique and viticulturally rich terroir of the land. Proprietor Giovanni Manetti's vineyards are farmed utilizing organic practices, and he has adopted a number bio-dynamic principles which he feels have contributed to improving the quality of his vineyards.
Fontodi is situated in the "Conca d'Oro (the golden shell) an amphitheater-shaped region located in the valley south of the town of Panzano that benefits from a high elevation, clay/shist oil, generous light, and warm, dry weather with wide diurnal variations in temperature.
During our tasting of today's feature, we found that the wine captured the very essence of the Chianti Classico region. With its vibrant ruby hue and enticing aromas of ripe cherry, blackcurrant, and delicate floral notes, this Chianti Classico is a testament to Giovanni Manetti's commitment to tradition and quality. On the palate, one experiences layers of rich fruit, velvety tannins, and hints of spice, all of which lead up to a brilliant, long finish. The crazy thing about this wine is that it is still youthful and clearly packed tight. The wine at this point opens up gracefully over several hours, suggesting that it will age remarkably in the cellar for well over a decade.

94 points, James Suckling:
“Subtle aromas of sliced strawberries and cherries with some orange peel follow through to a medium body with succulent tannins and a bright and tangy finish. Lovely energy in this one. So good now. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.” (6/29/23)
93 points, Wine Spectator:
“Rich and velvety, laced with black cherry, blackberry, violet, and mineral flavors. This is driven by vibrant acidity and backed by well-mannered tannins. Shows excellent balance and length. Drink now through 2028.” (Website only, 2023)
