Introduction
The 2022 Château de Beaucastel Coudoulet de Beaucastel is an exceptional Côtes du Rhône from one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected producers. Often referred to as the "baby Beaucastel," this wine showcases much of the complexity and character associated with Château de Beaucastel’s prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape, at a more approachable price point. The Coudoulet vineyard is located just outside the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, benefiting from similar terroir, which gives this wine an impressive depth and structure uncommon in many Côtes du Rhône wines.

Terrior
The Coudoulet vineyard lies just east of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, separated by the A7 motorway but sharing similar soils. The terroir features large rounded galets (pebbles) that retain heat during the day and release it at night, allowing for optimal ripening. The soil composition, a mix of clay, limestone, and sand, provides excellent drainage while retaining sufficient moisture. The warm Mediterranean climate, with its intense sun and cooling Mistral winds, promotes the development of concentrated fruit flavors, balanced by refreshing acidity.

Appearance
Deep ruby with a hint of purple at the core, indicating concentration and youth. The wine shows excellent clarity and depth of color, with a vibrant appearance in the glass.

Nose
The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe aromas of black cherry, plum, and raspberry, interwoven with notes of garrigue (Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, rosemary, and lavender). Hints of black pepper, leather, and subtle smoky notes from oak aging add complexity. There is also a touch of licorice and a faint earthy undertone, giving it a classic Rhône character.

Palate
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and richly textured, with flavors of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and red plum, supported by secondary notes of dried herbs, leather, and a touch of spice. The tannins are fine and well-structured, providing grip without overwhelming the palate. A balanced acidity lifts the fruit, keeping the wine lively and preventing it from feeling too heavy. Subtle oak influence adds hints of vanilla and spice, while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Finish
The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering notes of dark fruit, black pepper, and a slight mineral edge. The tannins soften gracefully, leaving a pleasant warmth and a savory, herbal aftertaste that captures the essence of the Rhône Valley.

Overall Impression
The 2022 Château de Beaucastel Coudoulet de Beaucastel is a robust yet balanced Côtes du Rhône that showcases the skill and reputation of Château de Beaucastel. It offers impressive complexity and structure, making it a standout in its category and a worthy alternative to its Châteauneuf-du-Pape counterpart. This wine is both approachable now and suitable for cellaring, and it pairs wonderfully with a range of Mediterranean and roasted dishes.
