PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
In 1998, Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash founded Penner-Ash Wine Cellars in the Northern Willamette Valley’s Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Lynn's passion for winemaking was ignited as a science major in college; after obtaining a degree in enology at UC Davis she cut her teeth at such renowned wineries as Stag's Leap and Domaine Chandon. Bringing to life their shared vision, through years of hard work and unyielding commitment, Lynn and Ron built a reputation for lush, layered pinots, as well as community leadership throughout the valley.* Indeed, their wines have been instrumental in catapulting the Willamette Valley onto the world wine stage as a premier destination for exceptional, terroir-driven pinot noirs.

The 2021 Penner-Ash Pinot Noir reflects the region’s distinct textures, flavors, and terroir, with beautiful elegance and balance. Since its inaugural vintage in 1998, the Penner-Ash winemaking team has drawn upon longstanding relationships with grower neighbors and friends, to source fruit from the most distinguished vineyards. The 2021 vintage explores five sub-AVAs (Ribbon Ridge, Yamhill-Carlton, Dundee Hills, McMinnville, & Eola-Amity Hills), culminating in a pinot noir emblematic of the Willamette Valley, and of the Penner-Ash winemaking style – a textural experience from start to finish. Medium-bodied and plush, it offers aromas of spiced raspberries and ripe strawberries that fold into warm vanilla oak. Rainier cherry and cocoa provide a savory sweetness and weight on the palate leading to a lengthy finish.*

93 points, Decanter:
"Dark and brooding berry aromas frame this wine from the estate vines in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, which is accented by a touch of oaky sweetness. The palate is loaded with black- and blueberry fruits and sous bois (forest floor), along with savory notes of clove and a dab of cola to carry this rich palate to its finish." (5/4/23)

92 points, James Suckling:
"Crushed cherries, raspberries, and dried cranberries here, together with savory herbs, dried flowers, and wet stones. Medium-bodied, chalky, and polished with delicious cherries and hints of red spices. Crunchy and vibrant finish." (5/9/23)
