PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
The goal of Seven of Hearts is to produce fine wines that truly reflect their terroir - soil, weather, sun exposure, and varietal. Led by winemaker Byron Dooley, they take a non-interventionist approach to winemaking, not overmanipulating at any point during the process and letting the terroir lead the way. Working with fifteen different vineyards in the Willamette and Columbia Valleys, they allow their finished wines to be pure reflections of vintage and location.

The Alder Ridge Vineyard, situated in the Horse Heaven Hills of Columbia Valley, Washington, is endowed with a varied palette of soils, elevations, and sun exposures. Mourvèdre is planted along the river, a pitch-perfect location for this varietal that brings out its earthy, brooding, dark fruit characters, tobacco, coffee, leather, and spices. Handling in the winery follows Byron's long-standing approach, using slow extraction and minimal intervention to bring out the old-world characteristics of the varietal. New 500-liter American oak barrels were chosen for aging 38% of the wine in the final blend, bringing forth a rich, complex wine with balance and aging potential. (adapted from winery notes)

The 2020 Seven of Hearts Mourvèdre is rich and full-bodied yet elegant, with aromas and flavors of bramble and raspberry compote. The palate is laced with accents of savory herbs, woodsmoke, tobacco, and white pepper that unfold layer by glorious layer, with moderate acidity adding lift and balance.
