Introduction
The 2020 Amiral de Beychevelle is the second wine of the renowned Château Beychevelle, crafted with the same precision and care as its flagship wine. This Saint-Julien Bordeaux offers a graceful and accessible interpretation of the appellation, capturing the classic elegance and structure that defines Left Bank Bordeaux. The 2020 vintage was exceptional in Bordeaux, producing wines with depth, freshness, and remarkable aging potential.

Terrior
The vineyards of Château Beychevelle are situated on the gravely soils of Saint-Julien in Bordeaux, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The terroir benefits from the Gironde estuary, which moderates temperatures and minimizes frost risk, creating balanced growing conditions. In 2019, the warm and dry summer fostered concentrated flavors, while cooler nights helped retain acidity and aromatic complexity.

Appearance
The wine exhibits a deep ruby hue with subtle purple reflections, highlighting its youthful vibrancy and depth of concentration.

Nose
The nose reveals an inviting bouquet of ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, and cherry, interwoven with hints of cedar, tobacco, and graphite. Floral notes of violet and a subtle undertone of spice add complexity to the aromatic profile.

Palate
On the palate, the 2020 Amiral de Beychevelle is medium to full-bodied, with smooth, fine-grained tannins and a well-integrated acidity that provides freshness. The flavors echo the nose with blackcurrant, plum, and a touch of dark cherry, complemented by undertones of cigar box, crushed stone, and a gentle oak influence. The wine showcases both the richness and the finesse characteristic of Saint-Julien.

Finish
The finish is long and refined, with lingering notes of dark fruit, minerality, and a touch of spice, underscoring the wine’s balance and elegance.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
"The second wine of this terrific estate, which has been playing with the stars of the appellation for several years now, the 2020 Amiral De Beychevelle checks in as 54% cabernet sauvignon, 42% merlot, 3% cabernet franc, and the rest petit verdot. It gives up a rich, juicy nose of ripe red and blue fruits, spring flowers, Christmas spice, and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, it's nicely textured, has velvety tannins, good mid-palate depth, and a great finish."

Overall Impression
The 2020 Amiral de Beychevelle is an elegant, well-structured Bordeaux that captures the finesse and character of Saint-Julien. While approachable in its youth, this wine also has the potential for additional development over the next 5-10 years. It is an impressive expression of the Château Beychevelle style in an accessible, refined second wine.
