Introduction:
The 2023 Gaja Ca'Marcanda Magari from Tuscany is a poised and expressive "Super Tuscan" red wine that blends Bordeaux varieties with the unique terroir of the Tuscan coast. Crafted at Gaja's Ca'Marcanda estate in Bolgheri, Magari showcases ripe fruit, herbal nuance, and structure — delivering both immediate appeal and long-term aging potential.

Terrior:
Located in Bolgheri, along Tuscany's Alta Maremma coast, the estate’s vineyards grow on “terre brune” (brown clay and limestone) and white, pebbly soils rich in minerals. The Mediterranean climate, tempered by sea breezes and wide diurnal shifts, supports full phenolic ripening while preserving freshness and aromatic precision.

Tasting notes:
The 2023 Ca' Marcanda Magari Toscana Rosso, a blend of cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot aged in French oak for 12 months, has aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and blackberry laced with cedar, licorice, baking spice, Mediterranean herbs, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers ripe plum, cassis, and dark cherry supported by fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity. The wine’s texture is sleek yet structured, with mineral undertones and savory hints of herbs and tobacco, reflecting its Bolgheri origins. The finish is long and polished, with persistent dark fruit, cedar, and a savory mineral finish.

Press:
95 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
“The 2023 Magari is a bright magenta/ruby color. It’s fresh, spicy, and floral on the nose, with balanced pure cherry fruit, spicy cedar, toasted incense, and fresh rosemary. It displays a medium-framed profile, but it doesn’t lack focus in its silky texture, fine tannins, and refreshing though seamless acidity. This vintage offers a lot of freshness and elegance.”

Overall Impression:
The 2023 Gaja Ca'Marcanda Magari is a refined and elegant expression of coastal Tuscany. Its blend of cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot delivers dark fruit intensity, herbal complexity, and structure.
