Nello Baricci established the estate bearing his name in 1955. With his life savings, he bought the eastern slope of the Montosoli hill, a very special place with a long tradition of Sangiovese cultivation dating back to the Middle Ages. The Montosoli hill was already famous for the production of high-quality wines, thanks to its exceptional combination of soil composition and micro-climate. When the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino was established in 1967, Nello Baricci was already considered a Master of Sangiovese.*

Baricci’s first vintage of Rosso di Montalcino was produced in 1968 and the first Brunello in 1971. Today, Baricci is the only producer to have all its holdings (5 hectares) in the Montosoli “Grand Cru.”*

The estate is now managed by Nello’s grandsons, Federico and Francesco, who continue to craft powerful yet elegant wines that beautifully express the terror of Montosoli.*

The 2019 Baricci Brunello di Montalcino is sourced exclusively from the Montosoli vineyard, situated on the northern slopes of Montalcino at approximately 300 meters (1000 feet) elevation. The vineyard's galestro-rich soils and favorable microclimate contribute to the wine's complexity and aging potential.

Fermented in stainless steel and aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 36 months, the wine has aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries, and violets complemented by notes of leather, tobacco, and a hint of balsamic. The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, revealing flavors of red cherries, black raspberries, plums, and subtle baking spice. Firm tannins and vibrant acidity provide balance. The finish is long, with notes of red fruits, earthy undertones, and a touch of minerality that reflects the vineyard's unique terroir.

Fruit for this wine comes from the estate's oldest vines, aged 25 to 40 years old, in soils rich in marl, quartz, schist and marine fossils."
