PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Winemaker Chris Dowsett had just turned 15 when his family bought one of Oregon’s oldest vineyards on David Hill in the Willamette Valley. They learned the ropes on the fly, but they expanded the vineyard from 12 to 26 acres and created a successful winery with their partners.

After years of tending to the grapes and helping in the family winery, Chris enrolled in the horticulture program at Oregon State University. He also studied wine science at Roseworthy College in South Australia as part of a one-year exchange.

After graduation, Chris cut his teeth at wineries in Napa, Sonoma, and Walla Walla, Washington, where he established Dowsett Family Winery in 2007. Chris currently makes Dowsett Family wines from Washington State and Oregon at Buty Winery in the Walla Walla Airport District, where he also serves as winemaker.

From an excellent vintage (97 points, Wine Spectator), today's wine is crafted from 100% Pommard clone Pinot Noir sourced from Becklin Vineyards, located in the eastern Willamette Valley, and owned by Chris’ sister Libby Dowsett Becklin and her husband Don. The Becklin Vineyards are bisected by a thread of Jory rock. This igneous rock is derived from lava and has abundant red and brown clay along with clay loam. This terroir brings forth pinot noirs loaded with secondary, layered characters that bring complexity and elegance to the finished wines. 

The 2019 Dowsett Family Winery Pinot Noir Becklin Vineyard is opulent and silky smooth, with aromas and flavors of spicy cherry compote. On the palate, flavors of blue- and blackberries emerge, along with accents of bramble and wet stone. Soft tannins are offset by moderate acidity that lends structure and balance.
