2019 was an exceptional vintage in Tuscany's Montalcino appellation (98 points, Wine Spectator) that brought forth powerful yet elegant Brunellos. "Consistent weather, warm days, cool nights, and well-timed rain resulted in pure, fruit-filled Brunellos that combine elegance and power; the top wines rival the best 2016s." (Wine Spectator) You would be hard-pressed to come across a lackluster Brunello from 2019; the wines are nothing short of fabulous.

An exquisite 2019 Brunello from a producer who lives in the shadows of the region’s heavy hitters - and manages to snag some pretty stellar reviews from the press to boot - is a real score for wine lovers!

Franco Pacenti is located in the village of Canalicchio, just northwest of the historic town of Montalcino. The patriarch of the Pacenti family, Rosildo established the winery in the 1970s; since the late 1980s, it has been in the hands of his son Franco & his 3 children, Lisa, Serena, and Lorenzo.*

The estate is 36 hectares in total, with 10 hectares planted to sangiovese grosso. The vineyards, planted between 1980 and 2002, are divided into 6 parcels. They have a northeast exposure, sit at an average altitude of 300 meters, and have soils rich in clay.*

The Brunello here is vinified in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks with extended maceration on the skins, then aged in medium-to-large Slovenian oak casks as well as French oak barrels.*

94 points, Kerin O'Keefe:
"Aromas of fragrant blue flower, forest floor, eucalyptus, and spice form the nose on the elegant 2019 Brunello from Franco Pacenti. On the taut, savory palate, polished tannins and bright acidity provide agile support and energy. Drink 2027-2034.

94 points, James Suckling:
"Aromas of black mushrooms with black cherries and wet tree bark follow through to a medium to full body with creamy-textured tannins that give a sense of beauty and class. Layers of fruit and a flavorful finish, but always holding back. Elegant. Best after 2025."

93 points, Decanter:
“With the young, third generation firmly at the helm, the Franco Pacenti property is on the rise. The estate Brunello has been produced since 1966, corresponding with the creation of the denomination. The 2019 is a compelling expression of its territory. From a backdrop of sweet, wet earth, scents of roasted chestnut and violet arise. Approachable on the entry, the palate expands with ripe, rounded fruit. Heady dark cherry is offset by a coriander spiciness and juicy acidity. Tannins are velvety and embracing. Lots of flavor and enough stuffing for the next 10 years."
