La Rioja Alta, founded by five growers in 1890, has achieved iconic status in Spain and has helped to catapult the region onto the world wine stage. In the 1980s, when other bodegas were rushing to embrace more modern techniques, La Rioja Alta was increasing time in both barrel and bottle for their entire range. Crafted from 100% tempranillo, the 2019 La Rioja Alta Viña Alberdi Reserva has a bright, garnet color and intense red cherry tones on the rim of the glass. On the nose, its aromatic intensity of ripe strawberries and raspberries stands out, rounding off the pleasant balsamic notes of vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. The palate is round and balanced, with a pleasant initial freshness and sweet, round tannins, giving way to a long, fruity, and balsamic aftertaste, so characteristic of Viña Alberdi.*
