Nils Venge established a winery bearing the family name in the Napa Valley's Oakville district over 50 years ago and became part of an elite group of talented craftsmen who established the area as a premier fine wine destination. Today, Nils' son Kirk has taken over the reins and has made his mark in a BIG way. His wines are known for their opulence and concentrated fruit characters, earning him numerous accolades from the wine press as well as a considerable fan base among wine lovers.
Scout's Honor is named after the family's late and beloved Labrador Retriever, Scout. It is made predominantly with zinfandel blended with dry-farmed petite sirah, old-vine charbono, and mountainside syrah from vines young and old, creating a harmonious and opulent mix of complex flavors and vibrant, juicy fruit.

Kirk has expanded his vineyard sources for Scout's Honor into Sonoma County because of the scarcity of old-vine vineyards in Napa. This change has allowed him to take advantage of Sonoma's abundance of old vine plots and produce this beloved wine in the same quantities.
The 2023 Venge Vineyard's Scout's Honor is a blend of zinfandel, charbono, petite sirah, and sirah aged in a combination of new American oak and seasoned French oak barrels. It is full-bodied, silky-smooth, and brought into pitch-perfect balance by bright acidity. Its aromas of raspberry pie, kirsch, dried roses, and Chinese five spice lead to a lush, decadent palate resplendent with flavors of blackberries, cassis, and black raspberry compote, with whispers of baking spices and white pepper. The finish is long, with spice-tinged fruits that linger on the palate and beg you to take another sip.
