Introduction: Founded in 1831, Bodega Colomé is the oldest working winery in Argentina, located in the Upper Calchaquí Valley of Salta in the country's far northwest. Acquired by the Hess Family Estates in 2001, the estate is home to some of the world's highest commercial vineyards — including the iconic Altura Máxima, planted at 3,111 meters above sea level. Biodynamic farming practices are applied across the estate's vineyards. Torrontés is Argentina's signature native white grape, a natural cross of Muscat of Alexandria and the Mission grape of Galicia, and the Calchaquí Valley is widely regarded as the variety's finest expression in the world. Colomé's Estate Torrontés is consistently cited as a benchmark for the variety.

Terroir: Grapes are sourced from 30–60 year old vines across the Calchaquí Valley at altitudes of 1,700 to 3,100 meters above sea level — among the highest viticultural elevations on earth. The combination of extreme altitude, over 300 days of sunshine annually, intense UV radiation, and significant diurnal temperature swings between hot days and cold nights builds the grape's naturally explosive aromatics while preserving the crisp acidity that keeps the wine from tipping into heaviness. Sandy soils with low fertility and an arid climate stress the vines, concentrating flavor and reducing yields naturally.

Appearance: Pale yellow-green with silver reflections — bright, clear, and youthful.

Nose: Extraordinarily aromatic and immediately expressive — rose petals, jasmine, orange blossom, and nutmeg lead, followed by lychee, grapefruit, white peach, lime zest, and tropical fruit. Falstaff described the 2024 as "nuances of nutmeg and orange blossom, fine inviting aromas, background of white tropical fruit — a kind of high mountain Muscat Ottonel." The producer notes "lime and jasmine, complemented by subtle tropical and herbal notes."

Palate: Dry, taut, and refreshing — the wine's exuberant aromatics are balanced by crisp, precise acidity from the extreme altitude. A pristine fruit core of green apple, stone fruit, citrus, and white tropical notes moves across a medium body with clean, vibrant energy. Cold fermented at 12°C in stainless steel with no oak contact, the wine retains all the variety's natural floral intensity and freshness. A salty minerality on the close is the hallmark of the high-altitude Calchaquí terroir.

Finish: Long, clean, and mineral-edged, with a lingering floral and citrus note and the characteristic slightly spicy, herbal quality of great Torrontés. Refreshing and mouthwatering throughout.

Food Pairings:
🥩 Meat: Grilled shrimp with lime and cilantro, Thai-style chicken with lemongrass, or Peruvian ceviche.
🥦 Vegetarian: Spiced vegetable curry, fresh herb and citrus salad, or grilled corn with chili and lime.
🧀 Charcuterie Board: Fresh chèvre, mild feta, sliced mango, Marcona almonds, and honeycomb.

Overall Impression: A benchmark expression of Argentina's most distinctive native white grape from one of the country's most historic and geologically extraordinary estates. Aromatic, precise, and exhilaratingly fresh — the Calchaquí Valley's extreme altitude gives Torrontés a purity and tension that no other growing region in the world can replicate. Drink now while the aromatics are at their most vivid. Serve well-chilled at 44–48°F; drink now through 2026.
