Bodegas Protos, located in Peñafiel, Valladolid, in Ribera del Duero, is one of Spain’s most iconic wineries. The origins of Bodegas Protos date back to March 1927, when eleven entrepreneurs from Peñafiel joined forces, producing wines with soul, depth, and complexity. This initiative sought not only to produce high-quality wines but also to highlight the importance of the land of Peñafiel and its illustrious winemaking heritage. In 1929, its first wines, from the 1927 and 1928 vintages, were awarded the gold medal at the Barcelona Universal Exposition, consolidating its reputation in the national market.*

The 2022 Bodegas Protos “27 Cosecha” is an homage to the eleven visionaries who founded Protos in 1927. Crafted from 100% tempranillo, known here as tinta del país, and aged for 16 months in new French oak followed by 12 months in bottle, it is full-bodied and lushly textured, with aromas of spicy, brambly red and black fruits and flavors of cassis, black cherries, and blackberries that glide across the palate. Accents of baking spices, vanilla, and toast unfold on the mid-palate and carry the wine to a long finish.
