Known by many as "Barolo Bianco", the Arneis varietal was on the verge of extinction when winemaker Alfredo Currado of the well-known Vietti winery decided to capitalize on the newfound popularity of Piedmont wines in the1960s. Seeing its potential to achieve greatness, he planted some of his vineyards to Arneis and encouraged others to do the same. Indeed, the end result WAS greatness!
Cantina Pelassa was established in 1960 by Mario Pelassa, who tends to his 18 hectares of vines with his sons Daniele and Davide. The Pelassas take a non-interventionist approach to their craft, ensuring that their finished wines are pure expressions of the marriage between varietal and terroir.
Sourced from vineyards 1000 feet ASL in the San Vito district of Montà d'Alba, the 2024 Cantina Pelassa Arneis "San Vito" has aromas and flavors of white peaches, juicy pears, and green apples, with subtle hints of almonds. The palate is medium-bodied and infused with moderate, balancing acidity that brings it to a long, citrus-tinged finish.
