PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
The Copertino Cooperative of Puglia was established in 1935 when a group of visionary growers from the Salento peninsula decided to produce higher-quality wine from indigenous grapes. By maintaining lower yields and with meticulous attention to detail in the cellar, the resulting wines emphasized the terroir of the region, and the DOC Copertino was ultimately established in 1976. Today the cooperative has hundreds of proud members with 300 hectares planted mostly to traditional varieties: negroamaro, malvasia nera, and primitivo.*

The 2013 Copertino Riserva is crafted from negroamaro with a small percentage of malvasia nera fermented and aged in stainless steel. This Riserva wine is made only in the best vintages and released at the winemaker's discretion after several years of bottle aging. Ruby red with garnet hints, it has aromas of red and black fruits and a medium-to-full-bodied, silky palate of brambly raspberries and black cherries entwined with accents of herbs, tobacco leaf, wet stone, and a whiff of white pepper that lend depth and complexity.
