Introduction:
The 2022 Clos des Rocs Pouilly‑Loché “Clos des Rocs Monopole” is the estate’s signature bottling—a refined, mineral-driven Chardonnay embodying precision, texture, and depth in a rare single-vineyard expression.
Terrior:
The wine hails from a 3-hectare Clos Monopole planted with 85‑year-old Chardonnay vines on east-facing slopes. Soils are a blend of iron-rich red clay and limestone pebbles, with limestone bedrock just 30 cm below the surface. Vines are farmed organically without herbicides, and canopy and interrows are biodynamically managed.
Appearance:
Pale straw, luminous and crystalline in the glass, with gentle legs suggesting fine viscosity.
Nose:
Complex and expressive—aromas of candied orange peel, Anjou pear, citrus blossom, nutmeg, beeswax, and brioche mingle with subtle floral and saline nuances.
Palate:
Medium-bodied to fuller, with a harmonious blend of ripe orchard and citrus fruit tempered by racy acidity. The palate is both generous and refined, offering lush texture balanced by a vibrant, saline-driven minerality and chalky backbone.
Finish:
Long, focused, and mineral-rich—lemon zest and stone fruit taper into chalky, saline length with impeccable balance and lingering freshness.
Overall Impression:
A superb Pouilly‑Loché of depth and poise—approachable young yet built for aging. Expressive, mineral, and structured without heaviness. Ideal with shellfish, grilled fish, or creamy poultry dishes. Drink now through 2035+ to experience evolving nuance.
