Brunello lovers, we have been spoiled with the exceptional wines form the spectacular 2019 vintage. At some point, we will no longer be able to get these wines, but this afternoon's feature presents one more opportunity to spoil yourself a bit more!
Croce di Mezzo is a fourth-generation estate owned by the Faccenda and Schembri families, both of which have years of experience in farming and winemaking in Tuscany as well as Piedmont. They tend to their vines with the utmost care yet take a non-interventionist approach to their craft. They honor the old traditions while embracing innovation. Beautifully-crafted wines with a distinct sense of place are borne from these contrasting qualities.
The 2019 Croce di Mezzo Brunello di Montalcino is sourced from the historical region of ‘Villa de la Croce’ in Montalcino at 1600 feet ASL. Aged in oak for 30 months, it has aromas of red cherries, kirsch, forest floor, leather, tobacco, and blood orange. Red cherries and kirsch follow on the medium-bodied palate; the fruit characters are laced with notes of dark cocoa, tea, and savory herbs. Firm yet pliant tannins and bright acidity lend structure and bring the wine to a long finish.
