The Vouvray appellation, located in the Touraine region of the Loire Valley, is to chenin blanc what Sancerre is to sauvignon blanc, thanks in large part to the terroir, which consists of tufa (a type of limestone) soils layered with flinty clay, sand, and silt. Didier and Catherine Champalou of the estate that bears their name are at the top of their game; their cuvées, year after year, are the absolute cream of the crop coming out of the appellation. One sip of today's feature is a testament to their ability to coax greatness from chenin blanc and the appellation's terroir.

Today's wine has 4 years under its belt and is just coming into its own now. This single vineyard offering, sourced from 50-year-old vines, explodes with aromas and flavors of poached pears, Honeydew melons, baking spices, and lime zest. The palate has gained richness over time, with some viscosity that goes hand in hand with compelling notes of honey. Bright acidity and flinty minerality bring its glorious attributes into harmonious balance.

ABV: 13.5%
