The best Beaujulais are called Crus. Sourced from one of 10 appellations, or crus, from the northern part of Beaujolais, they represent the very best of the region.

Today's wine hails from the Cru of Moulin à Vent, located in the northernmost part of Beaujolais. Moulin à Vent wines are more sturdy, complex, and concentrated than their counterparts in the region, and it shows here.

Domaine du Mont Verrier is a 17th-century estate in the heart of Beaujolais. In recent years it had been in a state of disrepair and in danger of being destroyed, but its fate was changed when Gérard Legrand purchased it in 2007 and started to revive the property. In addition to restoring the buildings and opening a guest house, he planted 40 hectares of vineyards, thus combining his respect for hospitality and culture with his love of wine.

The 2020 Domaine Mont Verrier Moulin-A-Vent is medium-to-full-bodied and silky smooth, with a nose of raspberry compote laced with Concord grapes and violets. Black raspberries and black cherries dominate on the palate; accents of cranberries, savory herbs, and wet stone add depth and dimension. The finish is long, juicy, and bright.

ABV: 13.5%
