Domaine Vigneau-Chevreau Vouvray Sec Cuvée Silex Anjou-Touraine, Loire Valley

PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
Domaine Vigneau-Chevreau is one of the most prolific producers in the Loire Valley, thanks to fifth-generation winemaker Stéphane Vigneau-Chevreau's dedication to organic/biodynamic farming as well as a non-interventionist approach to winemaking that lets the terroir do the talking. Today's wine is crafted from 100% Chenin Blanc sourced from vines planted on south-facing hills in Vouvray with soils composed of clay, limestone, and flint ("silex"). The wine is fermented in seasoned barrels for two months after harvest, followed by a few months of lees-aging in stainless-steel tanks, thus achieving a pitch-perfect balance between acidity and generous fruit characters. It has flavors of orchard fruits, particularly pear, as well as a dash of honey. Great either as an aperitif or with seafood dishes.
