PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
While many believed that what is now the AVA of Coombsville was too cool to produce ripe cabernet sauvignon grapes, Augustin and Valeria saw a terroir that could bring forth fruit with the perfect balance of ripeness and acidity, fruit that made wines of immense power and grace. They were so right, people! Coombsville fruit dominates in the spectacular 2018 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon.
Indeed, Coombsville has all of the viticultural gifts for layered and complex cabernets: proximity to the cooling influences of San Pablo Bay; soils ranging from alluvial to volcanic ash and loam; abundant sunshine; and wide diurnal temperature variations.
The 2021 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 85% cabernet sauvignon, complemented with merlot, petit verdot, and cabernet franc. "Cabernet’s classic aromas and flavors star in our 2021 Faust Napa Valley. Delicate violet notes lift the dark fruit on the nose - black currant and briary blackberry - layered with pungent forest botanicals, leafy tobacco, graphite, and toasted spice. The velvet of fine-textured tannins backs expressive red fruit flavors on a complex palate, both sweet and savory with mocha and minerality, juicy ripe fruit, and freshness.” (winemaker notes)

"Owned by the Huneeus family of Quintessa and Flowers fame, Faust debuted in the 2002 vintage. Estate director Jen Beloz and winemaker David Jelinek have been working together here since 2011. This 2021 bottling is sourced primarily from the estate’s Coombsville vineyard, located in the southeastern corner of Napa Valley. From a cool, late-ripening spot, Coombsville fruit is often blended with riper, more forward, up-valley fruit in order to add spine and definition to Napa Cabernets, and this is a prime example. Faust’s Coombsville site, certified organic in ’21, accounts for about half of the blend, along with fruit from Yountville, Oakville, Rutherford and other AVAs. In a category known for triple-digit prices, this is an emphatic answer to the Napa Cabernet value search."
95 points, James Suckling:
"Inviting aromas of ripe blackcurrants and blackberries as well as crushed walnuts, cedar, and bark. Full-bodied, creamy, and structured with firm, polished tannins. Balanced and even with a lingering finish. "
93 points, Wine & Spirits Magazine:
"Focused on cabernet from the Faust estate in Coombsville, this includes fruit from the Huneeus family’s vineyards in Yountville and Oak Knoll, all relatively cool districts that combine in a brisk, red-fruited cabernet with cherry freshness. A bright young thing with a lot to say, it tastes like just-picked fruit, its spicy tannins supple and gracious, cool and lasting.
