For several years, Piedmont's Fontanabianca estate has given us exquisite, highly-rated Barbarescos that effortlessly blend opulence and elegance as well as ripe fruit and terroir-driven characters. Each year we marvel at their remarkable consistency and quality and wonder how the estate can possibly do it again the following year. Once again, they have dazzled us with today's Cru Barbaresco!

The Fontanabianca wine estate is so named because it looks out on a natural spring, the “white fountain” with its vineyards located in Neive. Young winemaker Matteo Pola, the son of Fontanabianca’s founder Aldo Pola, has wowed critics of all stripes in recent years with his stunning wines. It’s not hard to understand why: The family is blessed, as he will be the first to tell you, with some of the best vineyard sites in Neive, the heart of the Barbaresco appellation. At Fontanabianca, the father-and-son team divides the work between them: Aldo is the vineyard manager, while Matteo makes the wines. Aldo and Matteo are known as some of the best growers in Barbaresco; Matteo was mentored by one of the greatest nebbiolo producers of all time, Beppe Caviola. (from importer notes)

Sourced from the Serraboella Cru in Neive, the 2019 Fontanabianca Barbaresco Cru Serrabolla was vinified in stainless steel tanks and aged on large oak casks for 15 months before bottling.

96 points, Wine Enthusiast:
"Aromas of new leather, menthol, licorice, and dark-skinned berry shape the nose on this perfumed red. Juicy and savory, the radiant palate delivers succulent black cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise, and cinnamon set against a backbone of firm, fine-grained tannins. It's vibrant, balanced, and youthfully tense, with nervous acidity. *Cellar Selection* (9/22)

95 points, Wine & Spirits:
"The Pola family’s small southwest-facing vineyard plot at the top of Serraboella in Neive is the source for this powerfully expressive Barbaresco. It opens slowly with scents of earth and wet bark that expand into tangy cherry and raspberry flavors. Cool, mineral notes sculpt the red-fruit tones, enhancing their purity and precision." (12/22)
