Introduction: G.D. Vajra is one of Barolo's most esteemed and principled family estates, with vineyard roots in the Langhe stretching back to the 1880s. Aldo Vajra took over the estate at just 15 years old in 1968, earning the region's first organic certification in 1971 and pioneering varietal work that placed the family at the forefront of Piedmontese winemaking. Today the estate is run with Aldo and Milena's children Giuseppe, Francesca, and Isidoro across 40 hectares of organically farmed vines. Rosabella — named for "Bella Mama Rosa" — is their rosato, approached with the same seriousness and precision as their celebrated Barolos.

Terroir: The wine is sourced from organically farmed younger-vine estate vineyards in the Langhe, planted at high elevation where cooling Alpine influences extend the growing season and preserve the natural acidity and aromatic precision that define all Vajra wines. The soils are calcareous clay-limestone — the same geological foundation that gives Barolo its structure and mineral character, here expressed in a lighter, more floral register through the saignée method.

Appearance: Bright, luminous peach-pink with a delicate, translucent hue.

Nose: Particularly fragrant and precise — tart cherry, cherry pit, red raspberry, rhubarb, and a hint of wild strawberry lead, alongside orange blossom, blood orange, faded rose petals, and a subtle Oriental spice note. The producer's own notes describe the nose as "delicate notes of orange blossoms, blood orange, peach, fresh strawberries, fanée rose petals and a hint of Oriental spices."

Palate: Light-bodied and refined, with vibrant acidity and a clean mineral thread running through flavors of crunchy red fruit, lime, apple, and white pepper. The saignée process — bleeding free-run juice from tanks of predominantly Nebbiolo — gives the wine a delicate structure and depth without weight. Fermented cool in stainless steel and kept off malolactic fermentation, the result is unapologetically fresh and elegant.

Finish: Pure and mineral-driven, with lingering red fruit and citrus and a satisfying length for a wine of this lightness.

Food Pairings:
🥩 Meat: Smoked salmon, grilled branzino, or vitello tonnato.
🥦 Vegetarian: Herb-dressed summer salads, vegetable antipasti, or a delicate mushroom risotto.
🧀 Charcuterie Board: Fresh buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto di Parma, marinated artichokes, and mild olives.

Overall Impression: One of Italy's finest rosatos — not a by-product of red winemaking, but a deliberate, crafted expression of Nebbiolo's floral and mineral character in pink form. Delicate, precise, and quietly complex, with the kind of restraint and elegance that reflects everything the Vajra family stands for. Serve well-chilled at 46–50°F; drink now through 2026.
