The 2016 "Passion di Re" (Passion of the Kings) is sourced from the Case Nere vineyard in La Morra. Situated about 1500 feet above sea level with excellent sun exposure and clay-limestone soils layered with sand, Casa Nere brings forth wines with heady aromatics and opulent flavor characters. Gabriele guides rather than dominates the winemaking process, letting this gorgeous terroir determine the quality of his finished wines.
Aged for 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels before bottling, the 2016 "Passion di Re" beguiles the senses with aromas of violets, strawberries, and cherries layered with rose petals, plums, and balsamic notes. The medium-bodied palate is plush and silky, with flavors of brambly cherries and raspberries entwined with subtle notes of underbrush, anise, and baking spices. The wine's 8 years of aging have beautifully integrated its tannins, fruit, and secondary flavor characters. Drinking very well now; it has the structure to age for another 7-10 years.
